Kathy Blakeslee is a naturalist and holds degrees in botany, holistic nutrition, and eco-design. She has a passion for growing herbs, organic gardening, phto-medicine along with teaching conscious live food nutrition. Her passions have given birth to her organic farm named Ashbury Herb Gardens which she created in 1994. This organic & bio-dynamic herb farm is tucked away in the rolling hils of Baraboo in Sauk Country, Wisconsin where pure artesian wells bubble out of the quartzite hills of the Baraboo Range.
Kathy's grew up in Wisconsin and has worked and lived and most of her adult life living in the Bay Area of San Francisco . She has also done plant research, lived around the world an has taught the topics of sustainability phyto medicine.. Kathy has now returned home to her roots in Wisconsin to live her passion of organic gardening and sharing her knowledge of living green and teaching permaculture along with the preservation of her artesian wells that dot her property, her passion in now in teaching permaculture a practical guide to small scale and integrative farming. This form of sustainable living practice was created by a man from Australia named Bill Mollison where Kathy has studied and lived in the 1990's and she offers this knowledge as she travels and works in Central America in the country of Costa Rica.
Kathy's vision for her life is to teach how to become ecological guardians and to transform cultures from consumerism to sustainability. Her passion that she enjoys sharing is growing organic food and teaching conscious eating along with teaching how to plant your own home garden, without the use chemicals and pesticides becoming an urban farmer of sorts Kathy is a certified instructor in the art of Permaculture, is a Master Gardener and a Master Herbalist and also a licensed holistic nutritionist and considers herself to be an Eco Activist.
Kathy spends much of her time now at her herb farm in Baraboo, Wisconsin where she has created an organic farm called Ashbury Herb Gardens in the 1990's and sells her herb plants at the Dane County farmers market in Madison, Wisconsin and sharing her knowledge with many in how to grow and organic garden and the healing ways of growing medicinal herbs. Kathy works with a Cherokee medicine woman at her farm and learns the ancient healing traditions of the Native Americans as well. Kathy has lived in Australia where she was introduced to and studied Permaculture, she has worked at Smith and Hawken in Mill Valley, CA and has lived an taught at Esalen Institute in Big Sur. She is an active member of Marin Organics as well as Bioneers and the Pachamama Alliance all in Marin Caifornia. Kathy is a charter member of the International Herb Growers and Marketing Assoication which began in 1982,
Kathy has been featured on the cover's Grower's Talks, Cooking Light and also Horticulture magazines among many others. . Kathy has since earned a Master's degree in Etho-Botany and also a degree in Eco Design from the University on Minnesote in the 1970's and is currently is a Holitic and Nutrition Life Style Coach and has her earned certication from OACA in Sabastapol, California in Permaculture Design.
Kathy is a consultant and shares with people how to plant an organic garden, grow medicinal botanical herbs and teaches that organic Food in your Best Medicine.
